Amazon Text Ads were announced just a short time ago, and yet the program is soon to be discontinued. According to an email advertisers received, Amazon will shut down their text ad program effective October 31st, 2015, the same day that they will be shutting down Amazon Product Ads.
Amazon Text Ads were organized as a replacement for Amazon Product Ads, as Text Ads were introduced simultaneously with the announcement that Amazon Product Ads would be discontinued.
Amazon Text Ads were created as an alternative program for sellers to advertise on the Amazon Marketplace by linking to external websites. Basically, filling the void for sellers who could not sell on the Amazon Marketplace because of budget, category restrictions, or whatever was holding them back.
It is clear that Amazon wants to keep businesses on their platform and sending traffic elsewhere via Amazon Text Ads would not benefit the company’s long-term goal, as outlined in this statement from Amazon.
“We value your business, which is why we would like to recommend you explore Selling on Amazon. If you are not already an Amazon Seller and you are interested in selling your products on Amazon, we encourage you to consider Selling on Amazon, with the opportunity to advertise using Sponsored Products.”
How do you feel about this recent announcement? Do you think this will push people to sell on Amazon or just lose the additional advertising platform?
